Assessment Instructions and Requirements
Part 1. Network Design
LO 1: Use specialist knowledge to select and apply appropriate tools and applications for network and cloud design and management
LO 2: Design a network for an organisation ensuring that it is integrated into the business practices
KiwiTechNZ is a small sized business media buying platform and currently with two (2) offices located in Auckland and Wellington. You are currently working as a Network Design Engineer in IT Solutions Specialists, which provides wide range of ISP, Telco and IT infrastructure services.
With the continuous growth in business, KiwiTechNZ asked your company to redesign their network where some of their resources will be hosted in cloud. Below are the details of their existing infrastrusture and requirements to help you in your design:
HQ - Auckland - Existing Hardware
|
Branch - Wellington - Existing Hardware
|
- 10 Desktop & 15 Laptop Computers
o Windows 10 Pro
o Server 2016 Standard
o Running as a file and print server
|
- 5 Desktop & 20 Laptop Computers
o Windows 10 Pro
|
Network details
|
- Users in Wellington access the file server via a VPN connection.
- A full backup of the server is done once a month and stored onto an external harddrive.
|
Unless explicitly specified:
1) The specifications of the hardware will be assumed meeting the minimum requirements.
2) You are allowed to make assumptions on the various type of networking equipment that KiwiTechNZ currently use.
Below are KiwiTechNZ requirements on the resources that will be hosted locally and in cloud:
Hosted Locally
|
Hosted in Cloud
|
- Domain security and related policies
- Centralized IP address management.
- Access control for all local resources.
|
- Cloud Performance Management
|
Other Requirements of the new network design:
|
- Good response time between:
o the 2 offices
o between the office and the cloud network.
|
Read the following assessment requirements carefully and use them to guide you on your assessment.
Requirements: Design KiwiTechNZ network across the two branches ensuring connectivity between them. Make sure that your design when integrated into the company will comply with business practices.
a) Sketch your network design using any designing tool of your choice. The network design should follow labelling best practices.
b) Make sure that your network design will have descriptions which include the justification of your design choices.
c) Select appropriate design tools and applications that you will apply to meet the company network and cloud requirements. You are required to provide justification of your selection and explain how the design tools and applications will be applied to your network design.
d) Select appropriate management tools and applications that you will apply to meet the company network and cloud requirements. You are required to provide justification of your selection and explain how the management tools and applications wil be applied to your network design.
Part 2. Trade-offs Evaluation and Technical Advice
LO 6: Evaluate trade-offs and provide technical advice on a network design/cloud to ensure business continuity
KiwiTechNZ requires you to provide additional information and discussion on the idea that if they decided to move everything to the cloud after the implementation of the hybrid design you have provided in Part 1.
Requirement 1: Based on the design you have completed in Part 1, evaluate trade-offs that will have to be considered by KiwiTechNZ if and when they decide to do a full cloud implementation. Provide at least 4 trade-offs to evaluate.
Requirement 2: Based on the trade-offs evaluated, provide technical advice on the network design/cloud management that will ensure business continuity during and after the full cloud implementation.
