I believe we live in three different and separate worlds: 1) the physical world, 2) the virtual or digital world, and 3) our very own intellectual world "inside our brain". With all the advancement and innovation in technology, our three worlds are converging more and more every day. The transition from digital to physical and vise versus, or from our intellectual world to the physical or digital world is becoming much easier and what seemed impossible just few years ago is now a reality. Here I would remind you that our definition of technology is any tool, device, or method of some sort that we use to transfer or transform something from our intellectual or physical world into the virtual world or vise versus.
While we are still far from total Transcendence-style artificial intelligence - like uploading human consciousness to software programs, at the rate we are going in technological innovations and in terms of the convergence between our noted three worlds, we could someday digitize the human brain, and reproduce cognitive intelligence and emotions, machines and computers that can totally replace human insight.
Discuss the pros and cons of this technological evolution and from a social informatics what kind of implications would this have on you as an individual and our society as whole?
