- Having completed the above analysis, add a 'journal entry' section in which you:
o Firstly, discussthechangesthatyouseeasbeingofpersonalsignificancewhen you compare your Part A view of ethical leadership and followership to your
Part B view of ethical leadership and followership
o Secondly, consider the personal implications your Part B view of ethical
leadership and followership has for what you intend to do more of, less of, or differently in future when engaging with others either as leader and/or as follower.
NB: the overall minimum number of scholarly sources required for this assignment is 12. See further guidance on this below.
The scenario: The Board of Directors of XYZ Limited (a fictional company) has contacted Massey University's Business School to ask for help. XYZ Ltd has recently had to remove the CEO and 2 of their direct reports for unethical leadership and followership. The Board is not saying what the previous CEO and the 2 direct reports did that was unethical, but they are certain that they want to appoint replacements who will be ethical in their leadership and followership, and to build an organisational culture that fosters good ethics. The Board wants to know how ethical leadership is understood in scholarly literature and what current students see as being most important for building an ethically-run organisation.
Title page
You must include the following information on your title page: paper name and number; assessment number; your name; student ID; mode (Albany, Manawatu, Distance); lecturer's name; word count (excluding the title page and reference list).
Introduction (approx. 100 words)
- Succinctly explain what the paper is about, giving a preview of your key argument/s, and outlining how it is organised.
Discussion: Conceptual/theoretical analysis (approx. 900 words)
- In a series of paragraphs, develop your response to the first bullet point of the Part B topic statement, beginning by explaining the key ideas you have selected from the scholarly sources.
- Then look to synthesize those various ideas to develop an overall definition that, in your own words, explains what ethical leadership and followership entails in terms of key principles, behaviours or practices.
- Remember that in this part you need to discuss and cite at least 6 scholarly sources from the recommended reading list for this assignment.
Discussion: Practical application (approx. 750 words)
- In a series of paragraphs we want to see a discussion that responds to the second bullet point of the Part B topic statement.
- Here too, be mindful about weaving in scholarly sources that relate to what you are proposing ABC should do and/or why those actions would make it an appealing place to work to yourself and those from other cultures.
- Given what you have learnt about diversity and leadership in Assignment 3, identifying some of the issues raised by the topic statement should be easy for you - but do make sure you don't simply re-cycle material from your earlier assignment. While it's perfectly fine to draw on some of the same sources used in that earlier assignment, what you cannot do is recycle your own writing about those sources.
