Being counted as righteous before God is something I do not take for granted. One thing I struggled with even after accepting Christ was guilt. The more I learned about the freedom that Christ provides, the more I realize that my guilt is my carnal desires pulling me back (Rom. 6:11-14). I do not have to carry that burden because now I "have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (5:1). Thanks to Christ I am now adopted and can approach my heavenly Father boldly (8:15). This righteousness motivates me to live as such because sin no longer has control over me, and I can offer myself to Him (6:19). I could explain it to others by starting with what it means to be "counted as righteous." The difference between living under the law from living under grace. Then go into the implications for our day-to-day lives. We no longer need to live in guilt and try to prove ourselves. Instead, we freely choose to live for God joyfully, gratefully, and boldly.
