Case Study - Rivalry Series Promotion
Sport organizations are often linked with opposing teams that fans identify as a "rival". Increasingly, organizations and teams are beginning to use this competitive relationship to promote the sport product, you will have to identify a school that will serve as rivals to Memphis Athletics and develop a yearlong promotional campaign surrounding games between the two schools. This will include games between all sports teams sponsored by the two schools (e.g., football, volleyball, basketball, track & field, etc.). You will be required to provide justification for the team identified as rival, and the promotional campaign you develop.
Specific Requirements:
1) Identify and justify one school from the American Athletic Conference that will serve as rival to Memphis Athletics.
2) Develop a promotional title and logo for the yearlong rivalry.
3) Detail what Memphis Athletics will do to promote the rivalry competition.
4) Develop a yearlong competition between the two schools that promotes good sportsmanship and decides an overall winner for the school year. This competition should include schools receiving points for each victory a team achieves against the rival. You may also include points for fan behavior, athlete academics, and community service, among other ideas. (e.g., a football win = 1 point, a volleyball win =.5 points since the schools will play each other twice, etc.)
5) Design a advertisement for the season-long rivalry series that will engage consumers.
6) Justify how and why this advertisement will engage and persuade consumers to attend the "rivalry" games.
