The steel beam ABCD is simply supported at A (pin) and supported at B and D by steel cables each having a diameter of 12mm. A force of 20 kN is applied at point C. For steel, let E = 209 GPa. Determine the stresses in the cables and the deflections of points B, C, and D if (a) beam ABCD is considered rigid and (b) beam ABCD has I = 8(10^5) mm^4. Points A, B, C, and D are all on the beam and are 500mm apart. The lengths of cables B and D is 1m.
