Assignment:

A 50-year-old Caucasian male, nonsmoker, height=72 in., weight= 168lb, RHR= 64 beats/min, resting BP 124/80, total cholesterol=187 mg*dL, LDL=103, HDL=39, FBG=88mg. He is a former collegiate swimmer and lifelong triathlete is requesting assistance with run training. His only significant medical history is a series of over use injuries to his shoulders and Achilles tendon. He takes over the counter ibuprofen as needed. Father died at 51 of heart attack, and mother died at age 81 of cancer. Recently, he notes his workouts are unusually difficult and reports feeling constriction in his chest with exertion. Upon further questioning, he explains that the chest constriction is improved with rest and that he often feels dizzy during recover. He also wants to check his body fat percentage before he starts his high intensity training program. His 3 site skinfold data: chest=11mm, abdomen=28mm, and thigh=19mm.

1. Complete a CVD risk stratification for him. Calculate and categorize his BMI.

2. Determine if he would need medical clearance using the ACSM algorithm.

3. Determine his body fat percentage using his skinfold data. Be sure to include category rating of BF%. Use the 3-site formula and the population specific formula for conversion of Db to %BF.
