The objective of this section is to demonstrate - Manage recruitment selection and induction processes

Case Study - In the recruitment process it's important to ensure that the human resources being recruited supports the organisations strategic and operational plans as well as the organisations policies and procedures.

You are employed at National Camper Trailers as the HR officer. You have been asked by your manager to Review National Camper Trailers (NCT) HR Strategic Plan and HR Operational Plan so you are familiar with NTC HR requirements.

Question 1 - Review National Camper Trailers (NCT) HR Strategic Plan and HR Operational Plan. Identify and list the potential relevant policies and objectives.

Question 2 - The Operations Manager of NCT has asked you to develop a Recruitment, Selection and induction policy and procedure, along with the following supporting documents:

  • Advertisement for a vacant position including Selection Criteria for a new admin staff member (Full-time) in line with the organisational policy and legal requirements.
  • Interview questions for a new admin staff member
  • Relevant induction documents

Question 3 - Describe how you might obtain support for policies and procedures from your senior managers?

Question 4 - Using the developed forms and documents from Q2 of this case study, trial the Interview questions and induction manual on a colleague or friend to determine their effectiveness.

Identify and list what changes you could make to improve the documents and or process.

Question 5 - You have been asked by the Operation Manager to looking at NCT's future infrastructure requirements, and determine what future human resources will be needed and why? Summarise what will be required and why.

Question 6 -In the recruitment, selection and induction processes, describe the importance of ensuring current position descriptions and person specifications for vacancies are used by managers and others in the process.

Question 7 - You have conducted the interview process for NCT's new admin staff member and made your selection. Describe what and how you would advise applicants of the selection outcome.

Question 8 - Describe how you would provide access to training and ongoing support for all individuals engaged in staff induction.

Question 9 - Describe how you would check to see that the induction processes are followed across the organisation.

This project task will require you to document a hypothetical recruitment, selection and induction process.

Write up a basic job advertisement.

Note the criteria for the role, in terms of personality and skills and knowledge.

For each point, note why this is required/desirable.

Write a letter to the successful applicant, informing them of their next steps, including outlining the induction process.

Give some written example feedback to the employee (after their probationary and induction period).

Write some example feedback that they employee could submit, highlighting an issue and explain what you will do to resolve this.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage all aspects of recruitment selection and induction processes in accordance with organisational policies and procedures. It applies to individuals or human resource personnel who take responsibility for managing aspects of selecting new staff and orientating those staff in their new positions. It is not assumed that the individual will be directly involved in the selection processes themselves, although this may well be the case.
