Assignment:
Q1) Describe the process by which energy is generated in the CORE of the Sun; meaning that you need to basically describe the entire photon-photon chain reaction in detail. You are not being asked to discuss how energy from the Sun gets from the inside, through the layers, to the outside...you are looking to describe the step-by-step details of the proton-proton chain reaction!
Q2) Describe at two features of the Sun that are always present. Why are they there all the time? Describe two features of the Sun that are NOT always present. Why are they NOT there all the time? Your answer should have to do with the active features of the Sun, not simple basic properties like gravity, size, "it gives off light", etc.
Q3) We talk about the pressure balance that exists within our Sun (and also within other stable stars). What specifically creates this balance? Meaning, what TWO physical properties of the Sun are balanced? Please explain the implications of your answer and don't just copy the pressure balance notes since this is only the surface of the answer you're looking for (like what causes the pressure to exist at all). Also indicate what would happen to the Sun (or any other star) if either property got larger or smaller while leaving the other constant.
Q4) From simple, visible observations (without the use of high-tech, modern technology) how do we know the Sun is rotating? What if the Sun
stopped rotating? What about the Sun would be different; if anything at all? Is it important to our lives here on Earth or the future of the solar system that the Sun does continue to rotate? For this last set of questions, do not just answer an opinion here...actually do some research (internet if you wish) and describe at least ONE thing that would result if our Sun stopped rotating.
