Describe and identify three other ways to share information in an organization and explain the benefits of each. Again, rely on your readings for more details.
While this class focuses on storytelling, there are other ways to share information in an organization. One of the readings laid out this week in particular details this in Storytelling in Organizations: The Power and Traps. The first way they detail in terms of sharing information is modeling. This is when someone learns through watching others do things like doctors or fields like plumbing. The text explains "The effectiveness of modeling perhaps also explains the current interest in communities of practice (discussed in the September 2001 LILA event). Communities of practice present an organizational configuration in which, in addition to offering opportunities for learning through storytelling and sharing a 'repertoire of resources' (Wenger, 1998) such as symbols and objects, 'oldtimer' expertise is both made visible and is valued for modeling appropriate behavior and skills for newcomers" (Soule 2002) (page 8). There are some benefits to this. Some people are visual learners and need to see things in order to understand them, so modeling is the best way to go. It also enables people to feel like they can visualise what they need to do before doing said action. The second way is codified resources. In essence, these are reading materials given to new employees laying out the guidelines for a company (Soule 2002) (page 6). This method has its own unique benefits as well. Some activities need manuals since stories don't always convey step by step instructions as well as a manual would. The third other way to share information is symbolic objects. This is when there are visual indicators explaining what to do to people who are new. The article explains "They are prompted to appropriate behavior by prominent signs indicating 'Hard hat area' or 'Safety glasses required.' (symbolic objects), or by seeing their supervisors wearing the appropriate safety gear (modeling)" (Soule 2002) (page
The benefit of this method is that it conveys information that don't need stories since they are simple rules that would waste time explaining. please give a reaction for my student guide.
