Assignment:

Shared reading allows teachers to model fluent reading, demonstrate effective strategies for decoding and understanding text, and highlight important literary elements, all of which support students' literacy development. This interactive approach encourages participation and discussion, enabling students to share their thoughts and insights, which deepens their understanding of the material. Shared reading promotes a sense of community and belonging as students learn to appreciate diverse perspectives and build connections with their peers.

Step 1. Review

Review each dimension of literacy: oral language, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Step 2. Select

Select one text to read with your students for an entire week.

Step 3. Create

Use your state standards and information from the course material to create a five-day plan for shared reading appropriate to the K-3 grade level. Your plan must focus on a different dimension of literacy each day (1 each day for a total of 5 objectives). The dimensions of literacy include:

• Phonics
• Fluency
• Vocabulary
• Comprehension
