Description
Purpose
The purpose of this assessment is to provide you with opportunities to learn about management ideas relevant to the real world and to develop important skills required in the study and practice of management in organisations. Through engaging in this task, you will develop important academic skills for researching, applying, critically evaluating, and presenting information and ideas to the standard required of business professionals.
Context
Understanding how management theory and concepts are used to both guide and evaluate management decisions is important to the success of all professionals in organisations. The foundation management theories and concepts studied in MMM132 can be used to understand and evaluate management work in most organisations regardless of the management role or the national culture, industry, or size of the organisation.
Case Scenario
Both parts of this assessment require you use management theory and concepts to research and write about managerial work at either VicSES or Colesgroup.
Purpose: This assessment begins your journey of learning to research and present your knowledge and skills relevant.
Specifically, this assessment will help you develop and evaluate your skills in:
finding and evaluating relevant management theory and concepts presented in the prescribed textbook and peer reviewed Management journal articles.
writing a 600-word mini-essay in a formal structured way to define, explain, analyse, relate and critically evaluate (DEAR) management concepts in a real-life organisation.
learning to apply the APA7 citing and referencing skills required in MMM132.
checking your final submission meets the assessment criteria shown in the assessment rubric.
TASK
Imagine either the Victorian SES or Coles has hired you to perform one of the management roles indicated in their website. Go to their website and select a management role.
Then refer to each of Fayol's functions of management (see Chapter 3.5 of textbook) to explain and evaluate how that role might be performed.
Then identify and evaluate any two non-study experiences you can gain from Deakin University to assist you to learn how to perform in that role.
Purpose:
This business report provides you with an opportunity learn more about management ideas as they apply in the real world, and to strengthen your academic writing and research skills, as well as learn from the feedback you received on your AT 1A.
Use the Business Report format (see p. 6 below) to guide you on the sections and number of words required in each section of your report.
