Question: It should be of no surprise that companies are leaning towards using Social Media as it's becoming one of the most used aspects of the digital era. The online world is forever changing and becoming a resource of information and a new way of life, so to not get left behind businesses should take full advantage of social media by building their brand, marketing and promoting their organization. Although most company's website share information regarding their values and policies often investors, potential employees, customers and supplies use the company's website to gain more information about a company and if their ethics is of importance to them, it would make sense to include this information directly on the website (Trevino & Nelson 2021). Organizations that are serious about having an ethical culture, should consider adding the standards that the company expects from their employees directly in any recruiting materials (Trevino & Nelson 2021). As a company starts to utilize social media to build its image it would also come as no surprise of the concept that 70% of employers who used social media to pre-screen potential employees have been known to also reject about 57% based on that potential hire's content (n.d. 2019).
While Social media is a great way to communicate with the younger generations, it provides organizations with many opportunities to expand and increase their business. However this does not go without the risk of harm to an organization, therefore companies need to address these types of risks immediately by being open about how they use social media. Creating a policy that coincides with their ethical values as a company and describing how to influence or monitor their employees will help minimize the potential risks to an organization (n.d. 2019). In addition, it is important that employers are aware of the consequences of having social media in the workplace, for example knowing how it affects both personal and mental health issues of employees who are addicted to social media and the conflicts that could arise between corporate and personal values, this can decrease the productivity in the workplace as some employees could become distracted (n.d. 2019).
