The Uber Data Labelling project moved from pilot to full-scale project, with minimal changes, due largely to data labelling services having been used to date by Uber taxis, Uber Eats and Uber Freight. The main issues were around data security, privacy and ethics considerations when providing these services to third party businesses.

The challenge was that when an organization brings its data to Uber's platform so that it can use Uber's workforce and technology to label its data, then it needs to work with Uber to understand how the data is going to be stored and used and who will have access to their data. After numerous consultations with People and Culture, the Chief Risk Officer, Data Scientists and external Subject Matter Experts, these issues have now been resolved.

After 6 months, the project is now ready for handover to the Business As Usual (BAU) team.

Individual task

Assuming you are the Project Manager and you have delivered this project on time (within 6 months) and within budget, it is now important to capture lessons learned.

In migrating this project to the BAU team, the need for stakeholder engagement remains paramount and the operationalisation of this project needs to ensure that the BAU team takes full ownership of deliverables. To do this, your people skills remain critical to the ultimate success of this project.
