d. Compare the total number of deaths in 2005 and in 2010 in 3 different ways. Write a complete sentence for each.

3. Open the tab Heart Disease, which contains data on the number of deaths due to heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the US, and the population in each state (and DC) in 2010.

a. Which two states had the highest numbers of heart disease deaths? Name the states and the number of cases.

b. In column D, calculate the death rate in number of deaths per 100,000 people for each state. Which two states had the highest heart disease death rates? Name the states and their rates.

c. Does the state with the highest rate also have the highest number of cases? How can a state with a high rate not have a high number of cases? Be specific.

d. Use the Map Making Tool (linked in the excel file) to make a map of the states and their rates. Paste the map here.

e. Examine the map and describe the geographic trends to heart disease in the US. Mention any outliers.

4. Open the Car Salary tab. The table shows the number of cars a salesperson sells and the total salary the salesperson earns.

a. Make a scatter graph with trendline to show that the data is linear. Copy and paste your graph here.

b. What is the rate of change for this function? What is the meaning of this rate of change?

c. What is the initial value for this function? What is the meaning of this initial value?

5. Write your own situation that describes a linear function. Write its equation and define the variables.
