Question: You work in Human Resources for a company with 20,000 employees; 5,000 live in the west coast city where the company's headquarters are located. You have hired a data consultant to analyze your health claims data to identify areas where your costs are above industry averages. Somewhat to your surprise, the analysis suggests that expenditures for the treatment of asthma are extraordinarily high for children of your employees. You decide to investigate vendors that offer asthma management programs for children, with the thought that you might recommend contracting with a vendor to help your company control pediatric asthma treatment costs and improve quality. You begin your investigation by going to the America's Health Insurance Plans website to see if the AHIP offers any guidance. You quickly locate DM Direct and its listing of companies. You also search the internet for vendors of chronic illness management and disease management programs. You narrow your choices to two vendors. To assist your choice, you do the following:

(1) Construct a table that compares program features for the two vendors you are considering.

(2) Create a list of questions, specific to each vendor, which you intend to email to the two vendors asking for additional information regarding areas missing from their program descriptions, or requiring more details. Explain the reason for each question.

(3) While the information you receive in response to your emails could change your mind, at this point which vendor (of the two you profiled in your response to question 1) do you favor? Explain why.
