Question: We have read two stories that represent two widelv different narrative styles. The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe, a Gothic Romance (i.e., representing the Romantic Movement) in which the narrator and the principals skirt around the dark secrets of the human psyche. The Open Boat by Stephen Crane in which four men struggle to survive against an implacable foe - nature in the form of the indifferent ocean is a sterling example of Naturalism or Realism. So, Romanticism verses Naturalism, compare these two styles or approaches and the movements they represent. Compare them by characterization: by setting, by theme, by tone, by symbolism or by any other duality you feel appropriately exemplifies each movement. Paper should be a three-four page minimum, double spaced, with quotes from the stories. as well as outside critical texts. Be sure include a working definition of each of the literary movements to support your point and your conclusions.
