A W14x34 section is used as a simply supported beam over a span of 20 ft. The beam is loaded with a concentrated live load of 10 kips at the center of its span, in addition to its own weight.. The dead load includes the beam weight. The steel is A242, Grade 50. Check the shear resistance of this beam. Use the ASD design method only.

Suggest a hen managentment strategy that will maximize : A polutry farm owns 100 laying hens. Each week a hen can either lay 12 eggs or hatch 4 eggs, but not both. At the end of the four-week period all eggs and chicks will be sold: an egg will bring 10 cents, and a chick will bring 60 cents.
Descriptive material has negligible value : Descriptive material has negligible value and should be avoided. We are seeking analysis, discussion and recommendation, enriched by ideas found in journal articles.
Determine the lifetime risk of a resident : Consider a small town in the Phillippines, where the average weight of people is 55 kg, and the average lifespan is 60 years. The people here eat lots of fish due to abundant availability from the local river.
Determine the risk to the workers who work 8 hours/day : The natural air flow rate to this industrial shade structure is 90 m3/hour. Determine the risk to the workers who work 8 hours/day, 50 weeks/year for 30 years. Assume workers are 75 kg and live for 70 years.
