The character of Othello is criticized and made fun of throughout the play because he is both a Moor and a black man. How do you think Shakespeare and the playgoers in the 1600s would interpret and react to these two things about Othello? For example, why are these two things (being a Moor and black) seen as such negative things, and why do you think Shakespeare places so much emphasis on the "blackness" of Othello?
