Question
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States and globally. CVD puts a substantial economic burden on our society. The cardiovascular system consists of the heart and circulatory system and is a carefully regulated, integrated network of vessels that supplies the body with nutrients and oxygen. CVD includes atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, coronary artery disease, stroke, hypertension, angina, irregular heart rhythms, congestive heart failure, and congenital and rheumatic heart disease.
1. What are the primary risk factors associated with CVD? How do YOUR lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise, smoking, and stress impact your risk of developing CVD?
2. What steps can YOU take to prevent or reduce your risk of developing CVD? How practical are those steps, and what will your challenges be in implementing them on a large scale?
3. Are there any gender differences in CVD's prevalence, presentation, or outcomes? What factors contribute to these disparities, and how can they be addressed?
