Historically, I think that the U.S. Federal Government and the European Union have taken different approaches to the view of data and ownership. Generally, in the U.S., data historically has not belonged to the individual, it belonged to the company. In the EU, under GDPR, data is more of a personal right. Compare, expand or share your views of the U.S. approach. You may consider comparing the U.S. approach, historically, to the current European Union view under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
