BUSINESS MANAGEMENT IN AN AGING SOCIETY Term Paper Instructions This paper should be approximately 7-10 double-spaced pages long, with 1" margins all around, and a font such as Arial or Times New Roman no larger than 12 pt. The purpose of this paper is to have you explore the marketing concepts and strategies that we have discussed in the 2nd section of the course regarding Design and Marketing to Older Consumers. Among many others, we have considered such topics as: 1) physical and cognitive changes in older adults; 2) needs and preferences of older consumers; 3) Universal Design; and 4) specific industries with particular relevance to older consumers The paper should address two topics: Universal Design vs. Age-related Design: discuss the concepts, and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each (REQUIRED) THEN EITHER: Using various media outlets (internet, TV ads, etc.), or going to Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, or any other store, find a product that is specifically designed and marketed for older adults: a. What is it about this product that makes it appropriate for older consumers? Is it relevant for consumers of all ages? b. How would you market this product to older adults? How would you change your marketing techniques to make it appealing to all consumers? OR: Using various media outlets (internet, TV ads, etc.), or going to Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, or any other store, find a product that is specifically designed and marketed for all consumers: a. What is it about this product that makes it appropriate for consumers of all ages? How might it be designed differently to better meet the needs of older consumers? b. How would you market this product to all consumers? How would you change your marketing to make it appealing to older consumers? NOTE: You don't need to BUY the product, but either provide me with a picture of it - Ad, picture from Internet-so I know what you're talking about. IF you need to take a picture of it at a real store, be sure to talk to the store manager, or someone like that, to tell them why you want the picture and get their permission (so they don't think you're casing the joint!). You should consider the four topics listed above when analyzing the product, its appeal to some or all consumers, and how you would market the product
