Construction Communication Assignment - Group report and presentation
This assessment is designed to help students build several basic construction communication skills including managing a group project, teamwork, problem solving, decision making and written and verbal communication. These skills are essential for construction professionals and highly desired by employers. The assessment will have both group and individual sections so please read this assessment outline and the rubric carefully.
Groups are required to perform a group presentation then submit a major report.
Presentation requirements - Groups are required to perform a 15 min presentation during the week 13 or 14 tutorial. The presentation schedule will be arranged by tutors. The required format for the presentation is audio-visual, consisting of speech complimented by slides. Students are required to each present one of the group sections as well as present on their own individual alternative solution. You can use the suggested structure below to prepare for the presentation:
- Introduction - Introduce the group members. Briefly introduce the industry problem that your group has chosen with some background research discussing why it is significant (3 slides, 1 min).
- Evaluation criteria - Briefly discuss selected criteria that the group will use to evaluate the solutions (2 slides, 1 min).
- All 4 students individually - Four alternative solutions with description and detailed analysis (6+ slides each, Max 3 minutes each).
- Evaluation - Briefly discuss how the group evaluated the alternative solutions using the group's evaluation table (2 slides, 1 minute).
- Conclusion - Present the final solution and summarise the presentation (2 slides, 1min).
- Questions - Tutors or students may ask for clarification of any part of your presentation.
