DISCUSSION BOARD QUESTIONS
1- LENS: Pick a section of dialogue from the To Kill a Mockingbird play and discuss it in teens of a socio economic or psychological critical lens. What is going on in the text? Describe why you felt as if this lens were appropriate. What are the characters saying and how does this relate to the time period, theme, state of the character. etc.
2- ARCHETYPES: Are there any archetypes in To Kill a Mockingbird? Compare one of the characters to an archetypal character in one of the other pieces of literature we have read this quarter. How they are similar and what purpose do they serve? For fun (or e.c. if you need it - just make sure to make a note of the e.c. attempt) give an example of this archetype in popular culture today.
3- NARRATOR: Compare how the play uses the dialogue of the characters to explain the back-story to how the narrator is used in The Lord of The Rings or The Things They Carried. How the role of the narrator is used in To Kill a Mockingbird? Who is filling us in? How are they filling the audience in on what is happening in the town? Are they different or similar? Make sure to pull from specific parts of texts to support this answer.
