Bisignani and Brizee (2011), contributors to the Purdue Online Writing Lab, explain in very clear terms why writing an annotated bibliography can be very beneficial for the researcher. For this assignment, each individual annotation entry within each workshop annotated bibliography submission document should follow the basic outline reflected below to be sure to obtain the required content areas.  The Purdue OWL example provides a partial depiction of the intended format.  The actual content to be addressed, however, differs somewhat from that shown on the Purdue OWL website, as detailed in the outline below.

The following is an example of a suggested annotated bibliography outline when using an article obtained through the OCLS database without a doi designation.  The first paragraph is a summary of the article, the second paragraph is an application of the article to the workplace and/or profession of human resource management, and the third paragraph is a reflection of the relevance of the article to you and your interests.

Paragraph One: Summarize the article.  Name and define the topic(s).  Identify key points made in the article.

Paragraph Two: Explain why this topic is relevant to human resource management.  Make the connections: 

1. Correlate the topic to one or more of the current workshop outcomes.
2. Identify any new or reinforced concepts that tie to or integrate with the textbook(s) or other sources used in this course or prior courses.  State the implications of the topic or topics from a Christian worldview (be sure to include connection to actual Scripture). 

Paragraph Three: Provide your analysis and opinion of the topic.  What areas are capable of immediate application, either personally or professionally?  Identify areas of 
agreement or disagreement?  What was your favorite quote and/or what new terms may be added to your growing lexicon?  List questions that remain for future inquiry.  What topic or resource lead(s) did the article provide for which you have further interest in researching (e.g., a referenced article, website, film, YouTube clip, or book)?

Annotated bibliography entries are written in block paragraph form using single spacing, as is illustrated in the Purdue OWL example.  The reason is that it provides a condensed reference format for ease of reference at a later date.  When writing your annotated bibliography, do not include the paragraph designations: Paragraph One, Paragraph Two, Paragraph Three.  These were used above to better illustrate the required format for the bibliographies.  Bibliographies make use of paraphrasing.  The only actual direct quote that should be included in your annotation is the one used to describe your favorite quote as indicated in the Paragraph Three description above.  The following Purdue OWL website provides useful information about the importance of paraphrasing, the six steps to achieve effective paraphrasing, and examples: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/563/02/

The actual reference source should be cited using proper APA formatting, and shown as a kind of header above the three paragraphs, as depicted immediately above.

1. Review the topic of annotated bibliographies on the Purdue OWL site listed below.  Be sure to read through the entire segment, to include definitions, purpose, formatting and examples of APA style annotated bibliographies.  The Purdue OWL website location is: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/
2. Review the topic of paraphrasing on the Purdue OWL site listed below.  Be sure to read through the entire segment, to include definition, significance, the six steps for effective paraphrasing and examples of paraphrasing.  The Purdue OWL website location is: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/
3. Select two different learning outcome areas to research- select two research topics from the assignment learning outcomes listed in the introduction to this assignment (see above) after "you should be able to."  For each workshop, use only the outcomes applicable to that workshop when selecting research topics.
   1. The first outcome in every workshop is a faith integration outcome, which integrates concepts of the workshop with an understanding of those same or similar concepts from a Christian worldview. 
   2. This outcome will be part of Paragraph Two in the two individual annotated bibliography entries, as noted in the content requirements for the Paragraph Two above.  However, you may also select an entire article that specifically integrates Christian worldview as well for one of the required annotated bibliography entries.
4. Research articles are to be at least three to five in length.  Select research articles from any journal identified in the select journal listing shown below.  Only those journals listed may be used for obtaining research articles.  Any one of the following journals may be retrieved electronically through IWU's Off-Campus Library Service (OCLS) site:www.indwes.edu/ocls, with preference for more recent articles (those published within the last two to three years).   Additional information on OCLS databases can be found at https://www.indwes.edu/ocls/business_databases_handout.pdf.

5. For each of three workshops, Workshop Two through Workshop Four, you will complete a total of two annotated bibliographies, comprising a course total of six bibliographies.  Read the articles; then write the two annotated bibliography entries.  Include both bibliography entries in a single submission document. 
6. The annotated bibliographies are to be written using proper APA format and proper mechanics.  Refer to the assignment rubric.  A title page is required.  A reference page  is not required because the reference information is to head each bibliography.
