Additional comments: Your Communication Challenge Scenario You are 1 month into your brand-new role as the COO at a mid-sized organization. In this role, you will be supervising 6 mid-level directors who manage teams of at least 7 employees each. While most of your new team and their direct reports work at your office location, there are several who work remotely on distributed teams. Because of this, building trust and good rapport with everyone has been a slow process, but you feel like you're making good strides in the right direction. Two months before you were hired, the former COO and the current CEO (your boss) made a decision to undergo an organizational restructuring due to the changing business and operational environment after COVID-19. With input from the board of directors, the executive team determined that a reduction in force was necessary to safeguard the organization's long-term viability. You were briefed on this decision during your onboarding process, but informed that the changes would not be announced for several more months to give you time to get adjusted to your new role, to get familiar with your new team, and to give the executive team time to finalize the details. While the information was expected to stay private and wouldn't be disclosed in an official capacity until several months from now, you've just received an email message from one of your directors who has been with the organization for over ten years.
