In this essay you will present an analysis of either "Ain't I a Woman?" or "Claiming an Education.
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how the speech you have chosen, uses ethos, pathos and logos to persuade the audience.
Structure: FIVE paragraph essay which would include an introduction, THREE body paragraphs, and a conclusion
The introduction should have the information about the time and space where the speech was delivered. It should provide a short biographical sketch of the authors/speaker. The last and final sentence of the introduction should be a thesis statement.
Body Paragraphs: The body paragraphs should have a topic sentence where you clearly identify the central point that the paragraph is discussing.
You will need to use direct quotations from the speeches as "evidence" in the body paragraphs to support your main point/topic. For using quotations from Sojourner Truth's speech, you will only use quotation marks but you not need to write anything else after the quite.
Example: Truth uses logic when she states "I have ploughed an planted". In contrast, if you are writing on "Claiming and Education", then you would need to put the page number in bracket after the quotation; example: Rich brings attention to the difference between claiming and receiving as she invites her readers to establish control over their education and learning "as the rightful owner" (1).
Each quotation should be followed by an explanation of its significance in relation to the paragraph's point and the overall point of the essay as a whole.
Finally, the paper should have a clear conclusion.
After the conclusion, add a section with the heading Work Cited. Under this heading you will present a reference of the speech. As this is your first essay it is enough to have the following information only:
Author's lastname, firstname. "Title of the Speech." Year when the speech was fitst delivered. UR Course.
