Emerging Network Technologies
Assessment 2a is a group report on an emerging network technology. The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate your ability to critically appraise and analyse an emerging network technology. You will need to work in a group to research and analyse the technology, and provide an in-depth report that includes a detailed description of the technology, its underpinning concepts, potential uses, impacts and concerns.
Instructions:
Group Formation: You will be assigned to a group of 3-4 students. If you have a preference to work with specific students, please let the instructor know as soon as possible.
Topic Selection: Each group must choose an emerging network technology to research and analyse. The instructor will provide a list of suggested topics, but groups may propose a different topic if they wish. The topic must be approved by the instructor before starting the research process. Research: Each group member must contribute to the research process. You are expected to use a variety of sources, including academic journals, books, conference proceedings, and reputable online sources. All sources used must be properly cited using a standard citation format.
Report Writing: The report should be well-structured and clearly written, with appropriate headings and subheadings. The report must be a minimum of 2000 words, not including references, and must include the following sections:
Introduction: Introduce the technology and provide a brief overview of what the report will cover.
Description: Provide a detailed description of the technology, including its underpinning concepts, architecture, and protocols.
Potential Uses: Describe potential uses of the technology and its advantages over existing technologies.
Impacts: Analyse the potential impacts of the technology, including economic, social, and environmental impacts.
Concerns: Identify potential concerns associated with the technology, such as security, privacy, and ethical concerns.
Conclusion: Summarize the report and provide recommendations for future research or implementation.
Assessment 2b: Presentation
Assessment 2b Detail
The report generated in part A will be presented in a plenary session to the class. Each group will present their report on an emerging network technology in a plenary session. The presentation should be equivalent to 1500 words and should be presented as a group. The presentation should be in PowerPoint or similar format, and should be no longer than 15 minutes in length. The presentation should be followed by a 5-minute question and answer session. The presentation should be delivered in a clear and organised manner, and the slides should be well-designed, visually appealing, and easy to read. The presentation should cover the following key areas:
Introduction: Introduce the emerging network technology and its importance.
Technology Description: Describe the technology and how it works.
Impact and concerns: Evaluate the impact and concerns of the technology.
Case Studies: Provide case studies or real-world examples of the technology in use.
Comparison: Compare the technology with existing or competing technologies.
Conclusion: Summarize the key points of the presentation and provide your group's recommendations for the future use and development of the technology.
During the presentation, all group members should actively participate and take turns presenting different parts of the report. The group members should also be prepared to answer any questions or clarifications at the end of the presentation.
This presentation will be graded based on the group's ability to effectively communicate the main findings and recommendations of the report, as well as their ability to answer any questions and engage with the class during the presentation. The presentation skills and response to the questions will be marked individually (see the Criteria and Rubric for more details).
