As a new graduate, Ellen was assigned a preceptor named John. At first Alan was grateful for his help but as she grew more confident, she started to think that John did not always no as much as he made out. She wanted him to treat her the same way as any registered nurse on the ward, but he would not leave her alone and kept giving her long boring, lectures that slowed her down when she was trying to get her work done and made her look silly in front of her patients and it was at lost about how to deal with the problem. She wanted to brush John off but she worried that he would turn nasty - after all, he was often in charge of the shift . What if he started allocating her the hardest patients or told the charge nurse that she was not performing well? Ellen dreaded going to work when she knew that John was also rostered on.
