Business Analysis Report
TASK DESCRIPTION
Consider the following situation.
You are a Project Team Leader with a fictive, Australian based adventure tourism company that has recently decided to enter three (3) new markets to start an offshore operation, namely Germany, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. (Note: as the company is fictive only, you will need to make one up for the purpose of this assessment, and provide details as instructed below (as opposed to choosing an existing company).
All three countries are culturally vastly different from the company's home country, Australia. Your CEO has asked you to pick only one (1) of the above selected countries, and with the help of your colleagues, to prepare a report to the board of directors, addressing at least three (3) key cultural differences and challenges that management may face, when the new operation starts in the new host country.
These key cultural differences must elaborate on how they may pose challenges in term of the kinds of tourism products and business offerings that your company wished to offer in this country. At the end of the analysis, you as the Project Team Leader, have to suggest recommendations on how to mitigate these cultural issues and challenges.
The information in this analysis must be more than a collection of facts. You must interpret the meaning of cultural information. That is, how does the information help in understanding the effect of culture on market/consumer behaviour?
For example, the fact that almost all the populations of Italy and Mexico are Catholic, is an interesting statistic, however, not nearly as useful as understanding the effect of Catholicism on the values, beliefs, and behaviours of your target market.
As a consultant and Project Team Leader, your role is to advise the company exactly how it may avoid cultural blunders, for both, management and the local tourists. Be aware that recitation of facts is not an analysis.
The key cultural issues and challenges must be examined in the light of theoretical understanding and frameworks sourced from the lectures, and readings in your textbook chapters, supported by at least six (6) journal references and three (3) reliable industry/academic website references, that expand upon these issues.
Failure to cite outside sources used in an assessment may lead to failure under the university's plagiarism policies. Furthermore, the use of non-academic references, such as Wikipedia, may also lead to failure.
Below is a list with some suggestions of key cultural issues that your chosen company may need to consider for international operations:
• Cultural dimensions relating to the ‘Global Research Project' and/or 'Hofstede' and/or ‘Trompenaar'.
• Business etiquettes and protocols, such as gift-giving rituals, communication and negotiation styles, ethics and attitudes towards bribery, child labour, and so on.
