There are occasions when users want to know "everything that has been published" on a subject. The most important reason is that they want to know the state-of-the-art before ' undertaking a new research project. Such information need can be satisfied by undertaking a comprehensive search in bibliographies - the indexing and abstracting publications: This is known as literature searching. The structure and arrangement of these secondary publications facilitate undertaking comprehensive literature search. A comprehensive literature search can be done very fast using online databases. Many libraries now provide literature search service. Before initiating a search for the user it is essential that the searcher understands what the user wants.
