A seamless-tube water pipe with an inside diameter of 250 mm runs from a reservoir to a small nearby town.

a) Calculate the pressure p and the force T per linear mm along the (imaginary) longitudinal seam in the pipe at a point that is 100 metres below the open (free) water surface of the reservoir.

b) If the wall thickness is 8 mm and the allowable tensile stress is 80 MPa, what maximum head h may this pipe safely withstand?
