Total settlement shall be so restricted or special arrangements made so that connections to the buildings such as drainage lines are not damaged. Allowable bearing pressure for footings on sand should be such that differential settlement does not exceed 1/300. This condition is generally satisfied if the total settlement is limited to 50 rnrn.
