What is CEC

The CEC of most soils increases with pH, below pH 6.0 the charge for clay mineral is relatively constant, while above pH 6.0 the charge on the mineral colloid increases slightly because of ioni sation of hydrogen from exposed hydroxyl groups at crystal edges. At very low pH values, however, the CEC is generally low.
