Vibration in structures – resilient bearings, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Vibration in structures - resilient bearings?

When railway tunnels are built close to buildings, ground-borne vibration is transmitted to buildingsthrough compression and shear waves [36]. When structural members (such as wall) of a building have natural frequencies similar to frequency at the source, response of structures would be magnified. This effect is evenmore major when building is designed with small number of movement joints. Therefore vibration can be felt inside the building and noise associated with this vibration is produced. To evade this, vibration isolation can be implemented sometimes by providing resilient bearings at column heads in buildings.
