Track Renewal:
Need for Track Renewal
Normal maintenance is able to keep up the track standards only to a limited extent. The track gets overaged or the speeds and traffic volume increase. Permanent damage is caused to the track which cannot be restored by normal maintenance. Full renewal of the track then becomes necessary.
Execution of Track Renewal
Track Renewal requires careful planning because the traffic movement cannot be stopped. The brief interval between successive train movements is utilized. The required quantity of ballast is collected in advance. The new track is assembled on sleepers by the side of the existing track or brought to site in wagon and after removal of the existing track, the new track is laid. The work is done manually or with the help of cranes.
