The advantage of using a Database Management System
The advantage of using a Database Management System for a data store is that databases have mechanisms for describing data, managing persistent storage and for providing a backup and recovery mechanism. It also provides concurrent access to the stored data with an appropriate locking mechanism. Most of the DBMS contains information about data in the form of a data dictionary.
