Test the strength of binders, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Strength tests: These tests are carried out to check the holding powers of various binders used in green moulding sand, dry moulding sand and core sand. These tests are performed on a U.T.M. The various test carried out includes:-

1.   Compressive strength test

2.   Shear strength test

3.   Tensile strength test

4.   Bending strength test

Out of these, compressive strength test is most important. The test specimen is

5.08 cm Φ × 5.08 cm long. The test is performed by applying a uniformly increasing load on sand specimen until it breaks. The compressive strength is read directly on the scale of the machine.
