Technology Options for Metering

Energy meters classically consist of an energy measurement apparatus for measuring energy consumption and a gauge in which is visible outside the meter for showing the amount of electrical quantities involving the energy consumed. Electricity meters track between other things, the amount of energy consumed, classically measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), at each customer's facility. The available technology options are given below.

Available Technology Options for Metering

a) Electromechanical meters (Ferraris wheel meters);

b) Hybrid meters;

c) Static (electronic) meters;

d) Demand meters;

e) Multiple tariff (variable rate) meters/Time of Usage (TOU) meters;

f) Prepaid meters;

g) Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Remote Meter Reading (RMR).
