Stress analysis requirements, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Stress analysis requirements?

All other lines requiring review by the stress group are to be checked for adequate support, stability, excessive movement, etc. Where hand calculations are required, they are to be filed with a stress sketch -- see "Reporting".

• "Worst Case" conditions to be identified for every line requiring formal analysis. Normal operation, design case, upsets, including start-up and shut-down case, are to be considered. These are to be reviewed with the process group to ensure that the worst case is identified, where applicable

• Analysis for thermal stress is to be based on the maximum temperature differential identified, derived from climatic data for the site and process conditions.

• Analysis for equipment reactions, anchor forces, etc., is to be based on the lowest expected ambient temperature during the proposed period of construction.

• For piping systems with design temperatures below the average ambient temperature, analysis for equipment reactions, and/or forces, etc., is to be based on the highest expected ambient temperature for the proposed period of construction.

• Use of expansion joints - Should always be approved in writing by the Client

- Client should review and approve expansion joint specification prior to commitment to purchase.
