PURPOSES OF DRESSING
A dressing can have a number of purposes, depending on the type, severity and position of the wound, although all purposes are focused towards promoting recovery and preventing further harm from the wound.
Key purposes of are dressing are:
- Protection from infection and damage.
- Helps to seal the wound to prevent bleeding.
- Soak up blood and other fluids from the wound.
- Some dressings may have a pain relieving effect.
- Promote healing.
Applying a dressing is a first aid skill, although you must have observed many people doing dressing at home with no training. Dressing is a clean procedure.
Now day's dressings come in a prepackaged sterile wrapping also; this can be used for deep wound with infection or pus.
