Scheme of some smaller piles with same load capacity, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Question

Which will be a better choice, a large diameter piles or a scheme of some smaller piles with same load capacity?

Answer

Choice of a large diameter pile suffers from drawback that severe consequences would occur in case there is setting out error of pile. Furthermore, in terms of rate consideration, for same load capacity cost of a group of small diameter piles is normally lower than that of a large diameter pile. On other hand, for small diameter piles such as mini-piles, they are valuable in site locations with limited headroom and space. In adding up, in a little structure with only a few piles, it is uneconomic as of its high mobilization charge.
