Salts with neutralization reactions, Chemistry

Assignment Help:

Q. Give neutralization reactions of salts?

Ans.

A salt is an ionic compound composed of an anion from an acid and a cation from a base. Sodium chloride, NaCl, and potassium bromide, KBr, are examples of salts.

You have learned that salts are formed in neutralization reactions.

acid + base -> salt + water

Lets consider the following example of the formation of a salt:

HCl + NaOH -> NaCl + H2O

In this reaction, the salt formed is NaCl. The anion of the salt, Cl-, comes from the acid HCl, and the cation of the salt, Na+, comes from the base NaOH.

Salts vary in their solubility in water. Aqueous solutions of salts always contain ions.
