It may involve the application of the complicated tools that may require some expertise. Most of the tools of quality control are also the tools of quality improvement. For project team, their correct use is very important. The quality control tools are:

  • Inspection - Inspection includes activities like measuring, examining and testing. This helps to determine if the results are complying with the requirements. The inspections are executed in various process levels. Inspection is also called as reviews, product reviews or walkthroughs.
  • Checklist - Checklist is a list with the previously defined options which can be used as a guide to control the risks. It also allows for a thorough evaluation in a short period of time.
  • Control charts - Control charts is used to present the result of the process. It is used to determine if the process is under control. It is used to monitor any type of variable output. It can also be used to monitor the cost and the scheduled variances, volume and frequency of changes and also the errors in the project documentation.
  • Pareto charts - Pareto chart is a histogram. It is ordered by the frequency of the result occurrences. It shows how many results were generated by the type or by the category of the identified cause. The relative position of the occurrences can be used to guide the corrective actions. The corrective actions should initially focus on the problems which cause the majority of defects. The Pareto Law states that a small number of  causes will  typically produce the majority of  problems or defects.
  • Statistical sampling - Statistical sampling is a part of statistical practice that is concerned with the selection of a random portion of the sample for inspection. The sample that is obtained from the product lot has to be a representative sample to get the correct prediction. The results of the sample are evaluated using probability theory. Appropriate sampling might often reduce the cost of quality control.
  • Flowcharting - Flowcharting is used in the quality control to analyse how the problems occur. Flowcharting techniques are commonly used in the quality management which includes the cause-and-effect diagrams or the system or the process flowchart.

The Quality control is the process which monitors the  particular project results to make sure that the results are according to the specifications.
