Progressive Scan: Progressive or non-interlaced scanning is a process which displays, transmits or stores moving images wherein, the lines of all frame are drawn in order. It is in contrast to the interlacing employed in traditional television systems.

Progressive Scan

It is used for most Cathode Ray Tube computer monitors. The other CRT-type displays, as televisions, classically use interlacing. This is also appearing increasingly general in high-end television element.

Advantages of progressive scan comprise:

  • raised vertical resolution. The perceived vertical resolution of an interlaced picture is generally equivalent to multiplying the active lines through about 1.6
  • No flickering of narrow horizontal models
  • Simpler video processing element
  • Easier compression
