OPIUM -

  • Opium is milky latex obtained by incising the unripe capsule of white poppy (Papaver somniferum family paprarecea)
  • It has eaten or smoke.
  • Generally it relieves pain, reduce tension & anxiety, lower B.P. and breathing rate, and induce drowsiness.

MORPHINE -

  • Isolated by Serturner & named it after the Greek God of dream or of sleep. Mopheus.
  • Morphine is the most valuable analgesic.
  • Morphine reduces heart beat, B.P. and urine output, increases blood sugar and causes constipation.
