Operations of the Web mainly depend on hypertext as its means of interacting with users. But what is hypertext? Hypertext as such is the same as regular text that is it can be read, written, searched or edited; though, hypertext contains connections within the text to many other documents. Hypertext links are known as hyperlinks. These hyperlinks can create a complex virtual web of connections.

Hypermedia is an advanced version of hypertext documents as it comprise links not only to other pieces of text but also to other forms of media like images, sounds and movies. Hypermedia combines multimedia and hypertext.
