Operation and maintenance of airport facilities:

The operation and maintenance of airport facilities is very important for ensuring safety, convenience and economy. Air Traffic Control facilities, lighting and passenger terminals are part of this. Heliports and STOL ports are special types of airports.

Objectives

After studying this unit, you should be able to

  • learn about certain important safety features of an airport such as Air Traffic

Control systems and airport lighting,

  • understand the planning, construction and maintenance of passenger terminals,
  • know about some special airports like Heliports and STOL airports, and
  • explain how the maintenance of airport facilities is carried out.
