Material Selection and Process Mapping
Selecting an optimal material from numerous candidates in one competitive aspect of manufacturing depends on factors such as properties, commercially shapes, reliability of supply and costs of material and processing. The material selection process should be started as early as possible in a machine or structure design. The key to proper material selection is to establish a checklist of the properties required for a serviceable design. At this point it is appropriate to compare candidate materials for availability and economics.
This deals with various types of material used for industry purpose, their properties and the types of selection process. This unit also discusses about the importance of process selection or process mapping in manufacturing process.
