I.S. CODES ON EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT BUILDING DESIGN
Bureau of Indian Standard has divided the country into five zones depending upon the severity of earthquake after observing Indian earthquakes for several years. IS 1893-1984 shows the various zones. Following IS codes will be of great significance for the design engineers:
IS 1893-2002: Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures (5th revision).
IS 4928-1993: Code of practice for Earthquake Resistant Design & Construction of Buildings. (2nd revision)
IS 13827-1992: Guidelines for Improving Earthquake Resistance of Low Strength Masonry Building
IS: 13920-1997: for Ductile Detailing of Reinforced Concrete Structures Code of practice Subjected to Seismic Forces.
IS: 13935-1993: Guidelines for Repair and Seismic Strengthening of Buildings.
Requirements of Good Building Stones Here described requirements of good building stones: Strength: The stone should be capable to resist the load coming on
does the truss pitch relate to the building''s height?
Cargo Handling Facilities: All water transport terminals require cargo handling facilities. Cranes of various sizes are used. In docks, traveling cranes are popular (Figure).
Define Cleanliness of Surface - Limitations of Ultrasonic System? Sound energy transmission is greatly affected by marine growth on the surface of the concrete element. Ultraso
Q. How to design Marginal Embankments? Design aspects of marginal embankments are similar to those of approach banks. The aspects needing special attention are dealt with below
Reinforcement in thrust blocks In general situation, reinforcement isn't essential for thrust blocks in pressurized pipelines. Though certain amount of reinforcement hasto be
Define Types of Seismic Isolation Bearing - Rubber Bearings? Seismic isolation is obtained by two types of isolation bearings. a) Rubber bearings b) Friction pendulum bea
Basic Considerations Governing Selection of Road Alignment: The following considerations shall be kept in view in selecting the road alignment: Roads in Plain Areas (a)
Cumulative distribution function - Poisson distribution: Find the cdf of Y = X 1 , + X 2 where X I and X 2 independently follow Poisson distribution with parameters λ l an
